PROTAPE OPT FOR A GREENER FUTURE
Media Supplier Invests In More Environmentally Friendly Packaging & Deliveries
London, UK, January 2008: Soho-based professional media supply experts Protape have been putting money into ways of making their business more environmentally sound. The first fruit of the company's new approach — a new £11,000 electrically powered delivery vehicle for Inner London deliveries — can now be seen parked outside the company's shop just off Tottenham Court Road. Protape are also beginning to combine multiple non-urgent deliveries to closely situated destinations further afield in order to cut down on the number of deliveries they make, and are replacing the bags they use in the shop with fully recyclable ones over the course of the next two months.
Bob Matthews, Protape's Managing Director, explains the company's new policy. "It's pretty clear to us that ideally, all companies need to do their bit to reduce carbon emissions where they can, and to use recyclable materials. Of course, that's easier for some companies than others. But we realised that there were two main areas of Protape's business where we could be 'greener': packaging and deliveries, particularly our deliveries within Inner London. A huge part of our customer base is located no more than two miles from our shop, and fundamentally, we don't need a huge diesel lorry or van to supply those customers.
The new van makes so much sense, both environmentally and financially — it can be written down 100% for corporation tax in one year, incurs no road tax, pays no congestion charge, and costs about 1.5 pence a mile to run in electricity charges. You can charge it from any 240V plug socket, and it can be parked free in many parts of London. It's a great example of what some of the latest advances in transport technology can do for the environment, if given a chance. "
