INSTITUTE OF VIDEOGRAPHY MEMBER WINS SONY HD CAMERA
Protape Announce The Winner Of Their 2007 Sony HD Camera Competition
London, UK, January 2008: London-based recording and video media specialists Protape have announced the details of the winning entrant in their November camera competition. The lucky winner, who received a Sony HDR-FX7E HDV video camera worth over £1800, was Russ Hirst, an investment manager from Harrogate, North Yorkshire. A member of the nationwide Institute of Videography (IOV), Russ saw the competition mentioned in the Institute's October e-bulletin and decided to enter. "I've been making and editing films and videos as a hobby since 1989," he explains, "mainly local weddings and family events, and became an IOV member a couple of years ago. I forgot all about the competition after I entered, and when the people at Protape phoned me up, I thought someone was winding me up! Being an honest Yorkshireman, I couldn't really believe that they were giving me a free HD camera until they handed over the box at the Protape offices and I realised it wasn't empty!
"I've been using an older MiniDV camera and it's been OK, but I haven't been too happy with the sound quality. I've only had the competition prize a few days, but already it knocks spots off the old one — even the built-in sound is much better and the HD footage I've shot looks great, even on my widescreen TV. It's really futureproofing what I do, and I'll be using it on all of my wedding work from now on."
At the time of writing, Russ has just been asked to produce a promotional video for the North Yorkshire Scouts, which will be his first major project using the new camera over the next couple of months.
